The tour in São José do Rio Preto is another result of the long-term partnership between the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo and Sesc – Serviço Social do Comércio, established since the first program of traveling exhibitions, at the 29th Bienal. Visitors to Sesc Rio Preto will find works that integrate groups related to two different statements: The engraved image of Coatlicue and Hiroshima mon amour by Alain Resnais. The first statement refers to the image of the statue of the Aztec goddess Coatlicue, designed by the German explorer Alexander von Humboldt. Inserted in the exhibition space, its history instigates the dialogue between artists and their works by allowing reflections on the power – and fear – of art. The other statement, in turn, comes from Hiroshima mon amour, the classic directed by Alain Resnais in 1959. By approaching the theme of unspeakable trauma, the film provokes a reflection on contemporary art by proposing ways of approaching opacity and untranslatability. of the testimony.
